Located to the south of Mysore in Karnataka, the Biligiri Ranjan Hills, known as the "white hills" due to the mist that often envelops the region, are home to the secluded Attikan Estate. Perched high in these hills, the estate reaches an altitude of up to 1650 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest coffee-growing areas in India and an ideal environment for cultivating Arabica coffee.

Attikan Estate, founded by Scottish pioneer Randolf Morris in 1888, boasts neatly organized fields where varieties such as Selection 9, Selection 795, Cauvery, and Kents are grown. The estate's name is believed to originate from the abundance of fig trees in the area, which also impart unique flavors to the coffee beans. Large Silver Oaks, figs, and citrus trees provide ample shade, creating a haven for wildlife, including diverse bird species, elephants, and bison.

During the harvest season, three rounds of handpicking ensure that only the ripest fruits are selected. These fruits are then pulped, fermented, washed, and sun-dried on elevated trays or the ground before being cured at Sangameshwar's own curing works. The resulting coffee is known for its sweet, bold flavor with spicy overtones like cinnamon and clove, earning it a reputation for excellence.

Sangameshwar Coffee Estates, founded by K.S. Vaidyanathan, acquired Attikan from Jr. Morris, integrating it into their portfolio. The estate's commitment to social responsibility is evident in the free medical services, accommodation, crèche facilities, and subsidized milk provided to all employees.

The pristine natural forests surrounding Attikan Estate are home to an array of wildlife, including elephants, tigers, leopards, Indian Gaur, black bears, and spotted deer, contributing to the area's rich biodiversity. The estate's history is further shrouded in mystery, having once been the hideout of the infamous bandit Veerappan.

Attikan Estate's award-winning coffee is celebrated internationally, sold in cafes across the UK, Australia, Singapore, Italy, Japan, and Korea. Now, domestic consumers also have the opportunity to savor this fantastic coffee, renowned for its exceptional quality and unique flavor profile.
